What Are the Best Types of Hearing Aids?

Did you know that one out of eight people suffers from some form of hearing loss? Whether you miss a word or two during conversations or rely almost entirely on reading lips, it may be time to consider getting a hearing aid.

But, exactly what are the different types of hearing aids? If you want to learn the answer to this question, you’re in the right place.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through some of the different styles. That way, you can decide on the best one for your specific needs. Let’s get started!

Canal

The first type is the canal hearing aid. This type of hearing aid fits inside your ear which makes it almost invisible. It’s a good option for people that dislike visible hearing aids.

There are three main types of canal hearing aids. The first is the in-the-canal (or ITC) that’s visible from the outside. The other type is the completely-in-canal (or CIC) hearing aid.

It’s smaller and less visible than the ITC, but you can still see it. If you want no one to be able to see it, go with the invisible-in-canal (or IIC) aid.

Because it’s harder to remove and adjust we typically don’t recommend this hearing aid for children or older adults that need hearing aids.

ITE

ITE stands for in-the-ear hearing aids. This type of product perfectly fits the outside of your ear. It’s good for everything from mild to severe hearing loss.

That being said, it’s also not the best option when you choose hearing aids for children. That’s because their ears are still growing which can cause sizing issues.

BTE

BTE stands for a behind-the-ear hearing aid. This type of product features a plastic case that wraps around the outside of your ear. From there a plastic mold directs sound into your ear.

The directional microphones on this product make them a good choice for people with severe hearing loss. And, the easy-fit nature makes it a good option for children that need hearing aids.

How to Find the Best Hearing Aid For You

Ultimately, the right hearing aid for you depends on factors like the severity of your hearing loss, your budget, and your preferences. To determine the right fit for you we recommend scheduling a hearing test appointment.

That way, the professional knows the extent of the damage and can recommend products that best suit your needs.
