How to Troubleshoot Standing Water in Your Dishwasher

You go to put your dishes away and instead of having nice clean dishes; you see a mini lake at the bottom of your dishwasher.

The dishwasher is a great appliance for cleaning and sanitizing dishes, but it can also develop problems. One common problem is standing water in the dishwasher.

If this happens, it can mean that your dishwasher isn’t draining properly or there’s a leak. Here’s how to troubleshoot standing water in your dishwasher and fix the problem.

Check for Leaks

The first step is to make sure you don’t have a leak somewhere else in your house.

If there’s a leak outside or under your sink, it could cause problems with the standing water in the bottom of the dishwasher. Check all faucets and pipes under the sink to make sure they aren’t leaking. If you find a leak, be sure to call masterrooter.com.

Check Your Garbage Disposal

If you want to get rid of standing water in the dishwasher, check the garbage disposal.

If it is connected to your dishwasher’s drain line, make sure it is turned off completely before starting your machine again. This will prevent any blockages from occurring during the operation of either appliance.

Check Your Dishwasher’s Hoses and Connections

If there is smelly standing water in the dishwasher, something may have come loose or disconnected in your dishwasher’s hoses and connections.

First, check all the hoses and connections in the back of your machine to make sure they are secure. If anything looks loose or damaged, replace it with a new part immediately.

Check Your Filter Screen

If your dishwasher has a filter screen at the bottom of its tub, make sure it is clear of debris. If there is any standing water in your dishwasher after it finishes washing, try cleaning out this filter screen with a stiff brush or paper towel.

Check Your Drain Pump

Occasionally, the drain pump can become clogged with lint and other debris.

This can cause standing water inside of your dishwasher even if all other parts are functioning properly. This can be fixed by replacing the drain pump with a new part.

Check Your Float Arm

The float arm regulates the amount of water that flows into the dishwasher during each cycle.

Check to see if it is loose or not moving freely enough to allow enough water into the dishwasher. If this is the issue, then simply tighten up the screw holding it in place or replace it with a new one if necessary.
