There are many different kinds of EMT classes. Some of them are offered by CUNY or BMCC. For example, global Medical Response is the world’s largest medical transport company. Certified EMTs teach training classes. They are also offered at several different locations. These classes aim to teach EMTs how to work in the field.
BMCC
BMCC’s paramedic program is the first nationally accredited paramedic program in New York. It is led by Dr Frank Mineo, who has worked as a paramedic for over 30 years. The paramedic program students take English composition, anatomy, and math classes. These courses have also been relocated to the downtown hospital. Paramedic programs at BMCC focus on emergency, cardiac, and cardiovascular care.
BMCC offers a paramedic program to help students earn an associate’s degree in emergency medicine. In addition to the EMT training, students complete contextualized customer service training and an internship at a medical facility. BMCC is committed to providing quality training for underserved students. To that end, the emergency medical training program removes obstacles to success. For example, students not required to possess a driver’s license are encouraged to complete the program. This enhances their employability as EMTs.
The BMCC Paramedic program is accredited by CAAHEP, the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs in Emergency Medical Services Professions. Students who complete the program meet the standards of the State of Oregon and can transfer their EMT Certificate to any other paramedic program in Oregon. Students who complete the EMT Basic program at BMCC can begin working on their skills as soon as the fall semester begins. They may also take First Responder classes throughout the academic year.
CUNY
CUNY’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) classes will train you to help people in emergencies. The Emergency Medical Technician program offers 176 hours of classroom and lab time. The program combines didactic and practical skills, culminating in a final preparatory exam. During the course, students take 21 in-person lectures and 19 in-lab days. They will also complete orientation and the COVID – 19 vaccine.
According to the Bureau of Labour Statistics, EMT jobs are expected to grow by 24% in New York City over the next decade. The course will train you to assess a patient’s condition and respond to various medical emergencies. You’ll be trained to deal with cardiac, trauma, and respiratory emergencies as an EMT. To practice as an EMT, you must be certified by the New York State Department of Health.
The CUNY Emergency Medical Technician program will prepare you for the certification exam administered by the New York State Department of Health. The program consists of 108 hours of classroom instruction, 88 hours of hands-on training, and twenty-four hours of working on a 911 ambulance under the supervision of a preceptor. The class requires a strict attendance policy, and students must be at least eighteen years old by the certification exam date. Students who complete the course will earn 9.5 college credits.
AMT
While you may not consider AMT classes a real school, they offer a unique learning experience. Unlike a traditional classroom, AMT classes include an array of multimedia tools. These tools include multimedia presentations, narrated commentary, and various images. They supplement or replace standard lectures on a given topic. They also give students a deeper understanding of the material and increase their engagement with the material.
You can access various scholarships if you plan to take AMT classes at a college or university. In addition, there are university-specific scholarships, and you can even access federal financial aid and student loans if you are a university student. But make sure that you check out the program’s reputation with other students to ensure that it’s good.
As an AMT, you can work in several roles, from pilot to flight engineer. You can also be a flight mechanic, auxiliary power unit (APU), or sensor-systems operator. Depending on your preference, you may also work as an instructor, which requires you to train in various areas.
BMCC/CUNY
The BMCC/CUNY EMT program offers students a practical approach to the field of emergency medicine. The program combines classroom instruction with a hands-on internship in a hospital or medical centre. Upon successful completion, students earn stackable credits towards becoming paramedics. The program also eliminates the barriers to success that often hinder underserved students. For example, most students do not have a driver’s license, so BMCC provides driver’s education to boost students’ employability as EMTs.
Borough of Manhattan Community College, part of the CUNY Community Colleges Consortium, recently received nearly $5 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand EMS job training in New York City. The grant will expand a new emergency medical services pathway program for high school seniors. The program will provide students with hands-on training while earning college credits towards enrollment in BMCC’s Associate in Applied Sciences Paramedic program.
EMT programs can be expensive. Some are free, and others require a fee for books and materials. Community colleges typically charge $750-$1,300 per year. For full-time students, federal financial aid may be available.
