In its early days, Clearfield residents commuted to Syracuse for elementary and junior high school educations. In 1907, Clearfield School opened up to provide local education for children who lived too far from Syracuse; later, it became Pioneer School, and finally, North Davis Junior High School was built to replace it in 1940.

Since then, Salt Lake City has continued its rapid development. Today, the Salt Lake City-Syracuse-Clearfield metropolitan area serves as a regional center for air transportation, railroad transport, highway travel, commercial development, industrial production, and residential living. Hill Air Force Base can be found here, as well as several of Davis County’s top employers, such as Lifetime Products, Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company (UTMC), Alliant Techsystems (ATS), and Smith Sport Optics – among others.

Clearfield utilizes a council-manager form of government, with a six-member council, which includes one member appointed as mayor. There is also a mayor pro tempore who acts as deputy mayor when needed. Clearfield boasts its municipal police force headquartered on Main Street, as well as operating a public library, which was relocated into a former police department building in 2008. FrontRunner commuter rail stop opened up Clearfield as an attractive hub of business, education, and community development in 2008.

Time of Dismissal

The Davis School District has decided to dismiss Clearfield High School football coach and physical education teacher Don Eck after allegations surfaced of him leaving an abusive and threatening voicemail for one of his players following a playoff loss earlier this month. Following this incident, he was placed on leave, but now the district has taken the steps necessary to terminate his employment altogether.

Students transitioning between classes must observe a one-way hallway policy at all times. Furthermore, staggered dismissals occur in the morning for grades 7-9 followed by 8-10. It is advised that they bring water bottles as water fountains will not be available to ensure the safety and health of all involved.
