Will Smith on Academy’s decision of banning him for a decade

Academy Award winner Will Smith has recognized and respected the Academy Board’s decision of banning him from all Academy Events for ten years according to ‘Variety’ reports.

He resigned at a noble note saying that he accepted and respected the Academy’s decision.

Statements issued by the 54 Member Board Committee made clear that Oscars are meant to celebrate multiple individuals who work hard in film in the film line and Mr.Smith’s actions ‘overshadowed those celebratory moments’ through his “unacceptable and harmful behavior”.

The Academy also apologized for their live telecast that didn’t permit them to fully address the situation. They express regret to all their viewers as they fell “unprepared for the unprecedented.” They also took this statement to express their gratitude towards comedian Chris Rock for “maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances” and the crew of the Academy board to keeping the show on its track.

Following Smith’s actions multiple called out to take back his Oscar that they believe he no longer deserves to which the Academy said they don’t have the rights to. Variety also reported that, “The organization did not have too many other options to impose, especially with Smith’s membership now no longer active following his resignation.” Adding that his resignation doesn’t preclude him from being nominated and/or winning other academy awards comparing his actions to that of Harvey Weinstein and Roman Polanski.

Smith did what he did as the comedian commented on the actors wife’s shaved head. Pinkett Smith spoke about her hair loss and struggles caused due to her medical condition alopecia. Although Smith apologized to Chris Rock, unfortunately, it doesn’t undo what previously happened. The Oscars are cautiously managing this heated situation with criticism from all sides for allowing the actor to attend the ceremony, to which the Board said he refused to leave
