Stellantis invests $24.7 million to retool Michigan engine plant

Stellantis is investing $24.7 million to rework its Trenton Engine Complex in Michigan.

The automaker says the site’s south plant will be retooled to a be flexible engine line capable of producing the two variations of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. The north plant will be decommissioned by the end of 2022, Stellantis said, and all 3.6-liter engine production at the complex will be consolidated at the south facility.

The Pentastar V-6 became a staple in the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram lineups after its 2011 launch, which the company said streamlined its V-6 offerings from seven to one.

The engine was upgraded in 2016 to enhance fuel economy and performance. The older version will continue to be produced through 2023.

Production of the upgraded Pentastar in the south plant is expected to begin by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
