Rose Garden Ice Arena in Norwich, Connecticut, provides numerous ice skating opportunities ranging from public skating and freestyle skating sessions for public consumption to beginners to advanced skaters alike.
Public Skating Hours
Ice skating is an excellent family activity. Not only can it provide cardiovascular exercise and help build balance, it can also relieve stress. For beginners, wearing protective equipment like a helmet and kneepad is recommended; additionally, taking some lessons to learn the fundamentals would be beneficial.
The Sinnissippi Park Rose Garden and Eclipse Lagoon offer public skating sessions year-round from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission costs $7 for adults, while children and military personnel are admitted at $4; skate rentals can also be rented separately at an additional cost. Skate rentals can also be found nearby for an additional charge. It offers residents the perfect place for leisurely walks along its paths or skating fun for all.
Norwich Rose Garden Ice Arena features a single ice surface that hosts various skating programs throughout the year, from public skating sessions and freestyle skating lessons for all ages to ice hockey of all levels for players of all ages. In addition, Ferguson’s Center Ice – a full-service pro shop, is located within its boundaries.
Ice Arena classes cater to students of all skill levels and host special events. Past events have included hosting an international ice hockey tournament called Silver Stick Tournament and serving as a training site for U.S. Olympic figure skater Julie Chu, hailing from Bridgeport.
RoseGarden Ice Arena offers trial lessons for beginners interested in skating for the first time, introducing basic skating skills such as donning skates and balancing on the ice. Classes are suitable for people aged 3 – 83.
All skaters must sign the RGIA Code of Conduct prior to going onto the ice. An adult must supervise children. Furthermore, skaters are not permitted on the ice during resurfacing procedures, and picking holes or chopping them is illegal.
Private Parties
Rose Garden Ice Arena, situated at the center of Norwich, provides public skating hours each week and figure and hockey lessons for all ages. Group rates can also be obtained; private coaches can be hired as necessary to assist guests during private events with their skating.
After experiencing a chiller failure that required its closure in 2013, Wonderland of Ice Associates of Bridgeport recently opened its ice arena. Recently, they added Center Ice Pizza as their pizza stand, which will operate out of what once housed their snack bar.
Group Rates

Hockey

Rose Garden Ice Arena is home to Norwich Hockey Club and is open year-round. Comprised of players from local schools who compete in both boys’ and girls’ leagues, this championship-winning team will begin its 2018-19 campaign with two practice sessions held here before their season commences in earnest.
Norwich–Work at Rose Garden Ice Arena has stopped this week due to an unexpected change. City officials plan to rebid the project in January, and hope work can start early next year. “This process may take a while, but at least it doesn’t require us to close down the arena while doing it,” said Mayor David Salomone.
This facility, called Wonderland of Ice, has since 2014 been rebranded as Rose Garden Ice Arena following its purchase by the city from its owners. As part of that transaction, a plate-and-frame ammonia chiller was installed along with other upgrades. Norwich Rose Garden Ice Associates have made over $1.5 million worth of improvements to this facility since taking ownership.
Ferguson’s Center Ice has a full-service pro shop restaurant and performance center offering on-ice and off-ice training for advanced figure skaters. Additionally, this rink houses USFS Norwich Figure Skating Club and popular peanut destinations Warm Puppy Cafe and Snoopy’s Gallery & Gift Shop – which have long been favorites within Norwich community life for over 50 years! Norwich city authorities have long operated this facility, which remains integral to local life today.
