With the tranquil Bay of Bengal as a backdrop, Tamil cinema’s ‘Lady Superstar’ Nayanthara and her long-term boyfriend Vignesh Shivan married in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony. For five years, Shivan, a film director, and Nayanthara, who has ruled Tamil cinema for over a decade, were in a relationship. They first met while discussing Shivan’s Naanum Rowdy Thaan. The couple married in a private ceremony attended by family and close friends in Mahabalipuram. Originally, they planned to marry at the Tirupati temple, but due to logistical issues, that did not happen.

After a temple-hopping spree last month, Nayan and Shivan’s wedding has been the talk of the town for the past few weeks. The ceremony was held at a sprawling five-star luxurious resort in Vadanemmeli, 30 kilometres from Chennai, where a special tent was erected.

In the presence of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, veteran filmmaker Maniratnam, producer Boney Kapoor, and other celebrities, Shivan married Nayan. Following the ceremony, the guests were served a sumptuous meal and deserts. Aside from the top stars, close family members of Nayan and Shivan were present at the wedding.

The wedding was performed by up to 20 priests from famous Tamil Nadu temples such as the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple in Tiruttani and the Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai.

“The ceremony began at around 8 am and went on till 10.30 am. As many as 20 priests from temples in Vadapalani, Tiruttani, Mylapore, and Tiruvannamalai conducted the wedding ceremony according to Hindu traditions,” one of the priests, Sambu Gurukal, told the waiting media outside the resort.
