The Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded just a little more than halfway through the month of July after ending June back near its recent lows. The best Dow Jones stocks to buy and watch in July are Apple (AAPL), Merck (MRK), Microsoft (MSFT) and UnitedHealth (UNH).

There are clear winners — and losers —halfway through the month of July. The top three performing Dow Jones stocks through July 18 were Merck, Chevron (CVX) and Amgen (AMGN) with advances of 20.5%, 18.9% and 8.4%, respectively.

The three biggest Dow Jones losers through July 18 were Disney (DIS), Nike (NKE) and Salesforce (CRM) with respective declines of 38.2%, 37.6% and 33.9% for the year.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq finished June down 29.5% for the year. The S&P 500 was down 20.6%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 15.3% through June 30.

Apple Stock

Apple stock dropped 0.55% Tuesday, threatening to extend a losing streak to three sessions. Apple shares are about 17% off their 52-week high, according to IBD MarketSmith chart analysis.

Merck Stock

Drug giant Merck broke out past a flat base’s 95.02 buy point in recent weeks, but is about 4% below the entry following Monday’s 0.5% rise. Merck shares moved up 1.2% Tuesday.

If the stock is able to regain the entry, the 5% buy area goes up to 99.77.

Microsoft Stock

Dow Jones software leader Microsoft sold of 3.3% Tuesday ahead of the company’s earnings results after the close. MSFT shares are about 27% off its 52-week high.

The company is expected to earn $2.29 a share on revenue of $52.3 billion.

UnitedHealth Stock

Health insurance giant and IBD Leaderboard stock UnitedHealth is in buy range above its double-bottom-with-handle base’s 518.80 buy point amid Tuesday’s 1.2% gain.

UNH stock shows a solid 95 out of a perfect 99 IBD Composite Rating, per the IBD Stock Checkup.
