David and Jennifer Fischer received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, an award recognizing the contributions by people of immigrant descent and others of distinguished character. David Fischer, who was chairman of Suburban Collection automotive group in Michigan, was U.S. ambassador to Morocco from 2019 to 2021. Jennifer Fischer has served on nonprofit boards in the arts, health care, education, hunger and homelessness fields. The Fischers have supported causes related to cancer awareness, child advocacy and education, among others. Nearly 100 of the medals were awarded during a ceremony in New York City this month.
