A former NBA player was given a job installing flooring at a Subaru dealership after managers there learned that he had been asking for money on nearby streets.

Beyer Subaru in Alexandria, Va., asked the company renovating its showroom to let Delonte West help with the project last month, according to a report from TMZ. West, who was drafted in the first round of the 2004 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics and played eight seasons in the league, told TMZ that he was between jobs and trying to support his children. He has struggled with “mental health and addiction issues” over the years, TMZ said.

“We’re told the flooring company was thrilled to have the extra help … and West has been working with them for the past two days — and doing a great job,” TMZ said, calling Beyer Subaru management “amazing people” for helping West get work.
