A North Carolina mansion nicknamed the Baby Biltmore for its resemblance to the state’s most famous estate has changed hands, with the CEO of Sonic Automotive buying it from the widow of AutoNation co-founder Steve Berrard.
A private equity firm tied to David Smith paid $6.2 million for the 13,000-square-foot Chateauesque mansion, the Charlotte Business Journal reported last week.
The sale comes nine months after the death of Berrard, who started AutoNation with Wayne Huizenga and was co-CEO with Huizenga from 1996 to 1999. The Berrards bought the house, located on 1.1 acres in a gated neighborhood of Charlotte called Seven Eagles, in 2003 for $3.5 million.
It has seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, a dual staircase, two wet bars, a theater room, a full gym and a pool overlooking the golf course that’s slated to host the 2022 Presidents Cup in September.
