Audi RS 3 makes a comeback with 5-cylinder turbocharged engine, Torque Rear mode

The RS 3, on hiatus for one model year, returns to the Audi lineup for 2022 with a familiar turbocharged inline five-cylinder engine — a rare motor these days.

It powers all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The all-wheel-drive system features a new torque-vectoring rear differential that gives the performance sedan greater agility when powering out of turns.

And a Torque Rear mode directs all torque through one rear wheel — ideal for tail-happy drifting on or off the racetrack.

The five-cylinder engine generates 401 hp, up from 394 hp on the 2020 model, and 369 pound-feet of torque, propelling the RS 3 from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

It goes on sale this summer starting $59,995, including shipping.
